Why choose an apprenticeship or traineeship?

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine training with working in a real job, for a real employer with a real wage.  Apprentices and trainees complete a qualification while acquiring skills at work under the guidance of a registered training organisation.  Apprenticeships and traineeships can be full-time, part-time or school-based, where some of the training is undertaken while the apprentice or trainee is attending secondary school.workshop

 

Who can do an apprenticeship or traineeship?

Just about anyone who wants to learn and earn is able to do an apprenticeship or traineeship including:

  • school-leavers
  • high school students, usually in years 11 or 12
  • people who are already working in an industry in a semi skilled capacity.  The apprenticeship or traineeship pathway will facilitate the recognition of their exisitng knowledge and skills and give opportunity an opportunity to achieve a qualification.
  • people working in Queensland who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, have a permanent residency visa, a temporary protection visa, or are engaged or married to an Australian citizen and are holders of provisional spouse visa under subclass 820 and 309.

Where can an apprenticeship or traineeship take you?

Upon completion of an apprenticeship or traineeship you will have acquired new knowledge and skills, as well as significant experience and confidence all gained from a real job.  This puts you in a great position to keep working, participate in further study or even start your own business.
