The Queensland Automotive Skills Alliance (QASA) Pty Ltd was established as a result of a successful tender arrangement with the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA).  Skills Alliances are one of the newly devised Queensland Government industry engagement models outlined in the Queensland Skills Plan.  The QASA consists of four industry associations together with the support of the relevant trade union body. The consortium partners include the Motor Trades Association of Queensland, the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland, the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers, the Construction & Mining Equipment Industry Group and the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union.  The QASA will collectively represent over 10,000 members from all sectors of the Automotive Retail, Services and Repair (RS&R) industry.

The Queensland Automotive Skills Alliance is a private company registered under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and is a proprietary company limited by shares.  Each of the four (4) industry associations holds an equal share in the company.  The Board of Directors consists of four (4) industry representatives and one (1) union representative.  The Queensland Automotive Skills Alliance was registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) on the 12th of December 2006.

QASA partners consistently engage with the Government on matters of regulatory advice, skills formation for the whole of the automotive industry, sales, ethical trade and a wide range of RS&R specific matters. QASA members have been active partners in the national process of training package development and review. QASA has the capacity to further influence and implement recommendations that have been validated by industry and Government to ensure the currency of national competency standards through the appointments held on various boards, steering and advisory committees, converting this effort into industry best practice.
